Nammu Birth Circle 5
“Breathing and Sound – Myth and Mother Voices”.what: Birth Worker Workshop – also for you who are (working on) building a baby.
who: Birth workers of all kinds including doulas, birth therapists, and pregnant women
when: Tuesday16th September 13-15.30
where: Studio Nanna Lysholt Hansen / Nammu Birth, Vestbanevej 20 (backyard) Valby
theme: “Breathing and Sound – Myth and Mother Voices”
We will let our individual voices come together in rhapsody by listening and uttering collectively by means of resonance, polyphony, dissonance, ambiguity, plurality, and embrace.
Through a series of exercises with the body, breathing, and use of voice, we will work with:-strengthening presence through listening
-grounding, responsiveness and intuition
-maintaining and centering focus
-vibrations and your personal intuitive sound/voice in a “here and now ”
-transformation of the voice into a language of word-medicine for empowering, healing and caring.
We will share knowledge of plant -and textile technology in relation to hospitality, carrying and caring.
We will perform care with Nammu Birth Rebozo – a care sculpture made by artist Nanna Lysholt Hansen.
Nammu Birth Rebozo is developed in collaboration with midwife, who brought the rebozo massage techniques from Mexico to Danish birth workers 20 years ago. The technique is not exclusively Mexican. All over the world, people have used textiles to carry and care for others. We will rediscover the wisdom of our ancestors.
Nammu Birth Circle is facilitated by birth therapist, visual artist and birth photographer Nanna Lysholt Hansen/Nammu Birth. The Workshop takes place in Nanna Lysholt Hansen’s artist studio in Valby and in her exhibition Closing of the Bones in FOYER The Danish Art Workshops Christianshavn

Nammu Birth Circle welcomes differences of all kinds.
I am looking forward to meeting you.

Nammu Birth Circle
Nammu Birth maternity circles are courses where pregnant women and new mothers with children aged 0-1 can meet in a safe and welcoming space.
Maternity circles are – unlike “mødregrupper” (mothers’ groups) – facilitated by a professional who acts as an experienced facilitator in vulnerable conversations regarding pregnancy, birth and motherhood, and who has prepared a special activity, an exercise, knowledge sharing/conversation topic for each meeting, and who takes into account the participants’ individual situation.
Nammu Birth Circles are facilitated by birth therapist and doula artist Nanna Lysholt Hansen/Nammu Birth
Content for the circles can be: Use of voice in birth preparation, child labour and mothering, aromatherapy and acupressure techniques, Rebozo Midwifery Art, plants and herbs in care practice, guided breathing and movement exercises, rebozo massage. The inclusion of art and literature in birth preparation and care practice, reading, writing, drawing, sculpting.
We meet approximately once a month over 6-12 months, ensuring greater benefit through continuity, coherence and development of acquaintances from time to time over several months and thus more long-term support and networking.
Use the Nammu Birth Circle as part of your birth preparation (when you reach term it is natural birth ripening to be with small babies). Prepare yourself for motherhood and family life, support and be supported, strengthen your network.
Birth Workers of all kinds are welcome (also doulas, birth therapists, artists, psychologists etc) Core elements of the Nammu Birth Circle are:
Knowledge Sharing
Mutual Support
Social Network
Come as you are. Nammu Birth Circle welcomes differences of all kinds.
all the best,
Nanna

Recommendations
I have had the pleasure of having another combined doula and birth photography course at Nammu Birth and can still highly recommend this: I have had beautiful pregnancy photos taken during the birth preparation course as well as beautiful family photos at my postpartum visit. It is my experience that Nanna is very responsive to one’s wishes and consistently manages to create a safe and relaxed atmosphere, which is reflected in the pictures.
In addition, I have received many photos and videos from the birth, which will forever document my daughter’s powerful journey to the world outside the womb. Nanna has managed to immortalize the atmosphere of the entire birth very nicely in the visual material; this with photography and videography from the gentle start of the dilation phase right up to the more intense end. I experienced that Nanna managed this in an impressive way while also providing support to me through the birth in the form of her doula function.
In addition to support during the birth itself, my doula course also consisted of four birth preparation sessions and a postpartum visit. Nanna also wrote a written testimony describing the birth.
Although Nanna has followed me through a previous pregnancy and birth, I experienced that she contributed new tools and perspectives in the preparation for this birth. This was done by Nanna facilitating a further development of the techniques that had helped me during my first birth, so that my important experiences from the last course were used very concretely to create the best possible conditions for a new good birth experience. At the same time, Nanna also presented me with new tools based on the new wishes I expressed for the course of this birth.
During the actual birth, I particularly benefited from using breathing exercises with sound as well as singing, which helped me to be in the contractions in an appropriate way and to channel their intensity rather than being consumed by it. Furthermore, I have used Nammu Birth Wear (aromatherapy) to good effect to create focus during labor and Nammu Birth Rebozo to create relief at the end of the dilation phase. (And then the rebozo scarf ended up being an effective tool to wrap myself in, when I had to rush from the Antenatal Clinic to a delivery room partially undressed;-).
As an important part of my birth preparation, Nanna also included my eldest child, aged 3, in the preparatory work. My daughter participated in one of the birth preparation sessions, and the focus here was on working with physical exercises on the floor, music and singing, and aromatherapy. It was all conveyed in a light and playful way and was especially developed with consideration for my daughter’s young age. My daughter clearly enjoyed the session and asked for follow-up sessions where we did the same exercises. I also found that it made the idea of a birth a little more concrete for my daughter, and that it became a little easier for her to relate to the fact that she would be picked up and cared for during the birth.
Overall, I can highly recommend a course at Nammubirth, regardless of whether you are a first-time or multiple-birth mother.

Dear Nanna, I am so very grateful to have met you and had you by my side during the pregnancy and delivery of my second child. Your listening ear, supportive attitude and eye for details have made my first experience with a doula truly a great one! You helped us heal a bit more from the first birth, helped me trust and guide my own experience of pregnancy and birth and you went above and beyond by helping us with finding a solution for someone to take care of the big brother during this birth! <3 I hope your professional future is filled with many lovely pregnant women that you can help with their transition into motherhood, and that you can grow in whatever direction your heart desires! Forever thankful

We heard about the concept of a doula and felt it would be a helpful and good addition to what the Danish Health System offers. We were expected our first child and we liked the idea of extra support. Nanna provided us with a lot of information, suggestions and material at the birth preparation sessions. It was more than expected, very impressive and greatly appreciated.
Nanna was guiding us to discover a lot of things we had no idea about concerning pregnancy and birth. Even when Nanna didn’t give us the information directly, she initiated the finding and the reflections. Additionally, we feel the psychological support she provided was a very important part of it.
We invited Nanna as our birth photographer because it is a special and unique time that we wouldn’t be able to capture with just our phones. A third person with the experience can provide a much more emotional and meaningful result. Looking now back at the pictures we are really happy to have some beautiful and artful depictions of these special moments. The pregnancy photography session came out very natural and casual, not stiff or artificial. Nanna has the skill of capturing the moment.
During birth Nanna supported us with her presence and practical assistance, supporting with pain relief techniques and making sure we wouldn’t be overwhelmed by the process. The coping tools we had learned were a great help that we used a lot during birth, especially the movements and support positions with and without partner.
We would absolutely recommend Doula Support to others. Every couple should have the support we had to turn the process to a positive and life-changing journey to becoming a family.
We would also definitely recommend to hire Nanna as your pregnancy&birth photographer. It is worth having beautiful pictures of this unique time. It’s easy to overlook or underestimate its future value
